Okay!!! Newsletters were delivered (it was mighty cold out there!) and our December 1st meeting has taken place. It was a nice, intimate setting down in the cafeteria in the parish house at St. John Vianney. There were about 40 or so residents present at our meeting, and we had a neighbor from Paducah Street come by, (his first time at a meeting), and we had a guest speaker, Kevin Schronce, from the City of Flint Planning Department. He wanted to let all of us know that there are still two meetings remaining that we could attend, if interested. They are today, Wednesday, December 3, 5:00 – 7:00pm at our own Calvary United Methodist Church up on Chevrolet Street, and then tomorrow, Thursday, December 4th, 11:00am – 1:00pm at the New Farmers’ Market.
The City of Flint Planning Department welcomes citizens to participate in the review and presentation of the Capital Improvement Plan for fiscal years 2015 through 2020. The meetings will allow citizen comments to be considered as the City moves towards formal adoption. Written comments may be submitted to the Planning Department. Contact Kevin Schronce by email at kschronce@cityofflint.com or by phone, 810-766-7426, ex., 3028 for additional information.
Now, from a personal point of view, I would like to take a moment to thank everyone in our neighborhood who attended the meeting. It was a good meeting, as we held elections for officers, and, too, it was a time for us to say goodbye to someone who has given so much of herself in terms of volunteer service to Mott Park. Sandy McKellar has faithfully and at times, single-handedly directed/managed the recycling post, set-up picnics and other events (art-in-the-park/neighborhood garage sales),
and worked as Treasurer for us! Her TEN YEARS of volunteer work for Mott Park has certainly won her a spot in that special place that people who truly care wind up (as a place-holder in our hearts and memories)! Nena Woodall shared some of the highlights that have been going on in the park, with regard to the children’s equipment and the repair and care of the swings, benches and other points of interest in the park itself (thank you again Tom Awad and Denny Gardner!) and Ginny Braun spoke a
little bit about all things Golf Course Association-wise. The meeting was infused with a bright spot from our own Santa, Rob Jewell, who passed out all kinds of neat little year-end gifts, (candles, fun mugs, vanilla/sugar bath soaps, calendars, etc.,). Councilperson Sheldon Neeley was also there to share some Holiday Cheer.
I hope very much that over the course of this next year, we will be able to have a few discussions about things that concern all of us who live here at a few of our meeting. I am going to try to build a spot for that in our meeting agenda. Also, If anyone does happen to read this, please know that we have LOTS OF ROOM for more volunteers! There are many things that would be such a breeze, if we had many hands helping! Thank you, Charles Johnson for taking on another newsletter route. That is a big help!
It’s been an interesting year here in our Mott Park. I hope that in 2015 we will be able to accomplish even more.
Wishing everyone a joy-filled holiday season,
Nada
PS Look who’s in the holiday spirit!
