Mott Park

Neighborhood Meeting Highlights

April 6, 2026 – Bi-Monthly Meeting

We have a couple Grants that have been submitted.  We have a grant from Mott Centennial to get an epoxy finish on the patio of the clubhouse and there is another grant for a Community Garden in the works.  Where it will be located in the neighborhood and other details still to come.

John Cohoon & Nicole Bennett from Genesee Conservation District – They are funded through Urban Forest for tree planting and tree removal in the neighborhood and throughout the city of Flint.  If you see a tree that is concerning, whether it be in front of your house or somewhere else in the neighborhood,  give them a call and they will look into it.  If you would like a tree planted in front of your house (between the sidewalk & street) contact Nicole at nicole.bennett@macd.org and she will come out and assess the area and determine what type of tree would be best to plant.  If there are other tree situations that anyone has questions or concerns about you can contact Heather Griffin at the city of Flint at 810-410-1134.  You will need to leave a message and she will get back with you as soon as she’s able.  It sounds like she is pretty busy.

Jason Martin from Wade Trim – He explained the sewer main project that is ongoing in the rec area.  The pipe runs 3 miles from the pump station on University Drive to the Water Treatment building on Beecher Rd.  The 72″ main pipe is being rehabed and this pipe is for the entire city of Flint.  It started last fall and will begin again soon and is estimated to end in 2027.  There are several areas within the rec area that will need to have holes dug to get to the pipe and it will disrupt the disc golf course on the Sunset Dr. side of the course and therefore, that will be closed while the work is being completed.

The Flint Daily would like to highlight Mott Park and Patrick Hayes would like to interview neighbors and see what life is like in the neighborhood.  We hope to have him come to a future meeting to speak.

Joel Arnold from Communities First – Update on the 3 apartment buildings on Flushing Rd.  Orchard Lane Apartments have been remodeled and should start taking leases in 3 weeks.  Orchard Manor Apartments (in the front) and the Townhouses (in the back) have 34 units with 10 units being dedicated to homeless veterans and Orchard Grove Apartments have 40 units.  All buildings are for low, middle and higher income tenants.  This is a 25 million dollar project that is part of the neighborhood.  If anyone is interested, or knows anyone who may be interested in leasing, the contact information is:  1112 W. Bristol Rd., Flint 48507 and the phone number for leasing is:  810-428-4111.  If there are any concerns or questions regarding the buildings the main number is:  810-422-5358.  There will be an official ribbon cutting for the apartment buildings on April 20, 2026.

With primary elections coming up August 4th we had a few candidates introduce themselves.  Andrea LeGendre for Probate Court Judge – Wantwaz Davis for 5th Ward Flint City Council – Joel Arnold for 5th Ward Flint City Council and Micaiah (Mic) Owens for Mayor City of Flint.
